The take

The Ritz opened in 1959 as Portugal's answer to the great European hotels, and under Four Seasons it remains the city's one true full-service address. Around 280 rooms and suites, most with balconies looking over Parque Eduardo VII toward the river, a large spa, a rooftop running track with the best free view in town, and a level of staffing that the boutiques on this list cannot match. Cura, the restaurant, holds a Michelin star.

It sits above the park at the top of Avenida da Liberdade, which is the trade-off. You are twenty minutes on foot from Chiado, mostly downhill, and a taxi back. Guest feedback is unusually consistent: the service is the point, the rooms are large, and the mid-century interiors and art collection either charm you or feel formal.

Book it for a big trip where you want everything handled, for families who need space and a pool, or for anyone who values a hotel that runs like a machine. For a first weekend where you want to walk out into old Lisbon, one of the Chiado hotels will serve you better.

The room to book: Deluxe Park-View Room

Two rungs up from Superior, but this is where the extra buys the reason to stay here: 49 m² instead of 42 and a private terrace looking down Eduardo VII park to the castle and the river. Premier Park-View is the same room on the highest floors.

Ask for
A high floor on the park side.
Avoid
Superior City-View, the entry room, which faces away from the park panorama that defines the hotel. Ask for a recently refurbished room; one or two guests find the older decor dated.

One Michelin starChef Rodolfo LavradorModern Portuguese tasting menusDinner only

A starred tasting-menu restaurant with its own street entrance, which tells you how it sees itself: a table people cross the city for, not a hotel dining room. Two menus, both available vegetarian, dinner only from seven.

Kabuki Lisboa

One Michelin starJapanese-Mediterranean on Portuguese produce

The Kabuki group's first restaurant outside Spain, starred in 2026, in the Galerias Ritz inside the hotel building. It is a tenant rather than a Four Seasons kitchen, but two starred rooms under one roof is unmatched in Lisbon.
