Royal River Luxury Hotel
Adults-only villas with private heated pools, wrapped around a lazy-river pool complex.
€€€From about €350 a night
Villa-led, pool-heavy grown-up escape.
Golf Costa Adeje, Costa Adeje, SpainThe take
Royal River is a newer arrival above Costa Adeje, on the edge of the golf course, and it does one thing very well: every villa has its own heated pool. Add a central pool complex with a lazy river, restaurants on site and an adults-only policy, and you have a hotel built for people who want to sunbathe in private and never queue for a lounger.
Guest feedback is warmest about exactly that privacy, and about the sense of newness; the villas are modern, big and well kept. It is a different proposition from the older, more ornate Royal Garden Villas nearby: larger, livelier, more of a resort in feel, with a small scene around the main pool at weekends.
The honest limitation is location. It sits inland on the hill, so the sea is a view rather than a walk, and the beach and the better restaurants of La Caleta are a taxi ride. Guests without a car sometimes find the evenings quiet. If your ideal week is mostly spent by your own pool with occasional forays out, that is not a problem; if you want to stroll to dinner, book lower down the hill.

The room to book: River Villa, one bedroom
This is the reason to choose Royal River over any other villa resort: 120 m² and a private pool opening onto the 100-metre botanical waterway. Guests consistently describe the river villas as extremely private. The 60 m² Lagoon Villa is the entry point and half the size.
- Ask for
- A river villa with a sunnier aspect. Guests note the river villas get less direct sun than the pool villas, so ask for one that catches the afternoon.
- Avoid
- The one-bedroom Lagoon Villa if space matters: 60 m² against 120 to 140 for the next tiers.
