Every one of the 103 keys has a fully fitted kitchen, from 36 studios up to three-bedroom duplexes, so it suits a long weekend and a family week equally: breakfast in, dinner out, a bottle from the lodges in the fridge.
The view is the point. From the river-facing suites and from Bello, the rooftop bar, you look across the water at Ribeira stacked up the hill with the bridge to one side, the picture Porto puts on its postcards, and you are on the quiet side of it. The spa below is a semi-heated indoor pool with sauna and treatment rooms, done as a Roman bath; it is an hour to pre-book, not a place to swim lengths.
Porto itself is a twenty-minute walk along the quay and over the bridge, or the cable car up to the Jardim do Morro. Guests rate the staff and breakfast highly; the gripes are breakfast overflow when the room is full and the strict children's hours at the pool.
